The Chapter of the Year Award has been presented to the Malaysia chapter at the award luncheon of VTC 2012 Fall in Quebec city.
In 2011, the Malaysia chapter organized 34 were technical or networking meetings, totalling 3077 attendees. The Malaysia chapter is a joint ComSoc/VTS chapter; the 2011 chair was Dr. Mohamad Hafizal (MIMOS Berhad) and the 2012 chair is Dr. Kiong Tiong Sieh (Universiti Tenaga Nasional). |

Two New VTS Chapters
The beginning of 2011 saw the creation of two new VTS chapters.
The brand new United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland Chapter has been set up thanks to the continued efforts of Dr. Oliver Holland, from King’s College London. This new chapter will serve the more than 150 VTS members in the UK and Republic of Ireland Section of IEEE. Dr. Holland is the interim chapter chair.
The IEEE Argentina Section Joint Chapter is a joint chapter between Industrial Electronics, Control Systems, Robotics and Automation, Industry Applications, and Power Electronics societies-- and now the Vehicular Technology Society, making it the first VTS chapter in Latin America (Region 9). IEEE VTS Members elevated to IEEE Fellow |

The following IEEE VTS have been selected as 2011 IEEE Fellows through the IEEE VTS.
- Sandeep Chennakeshu - for leadership of mobile handset development
- Jae Hong Lee - for contributions to wireless communication systems
- Ying-Chang Liang - for contribution to cognitive radio communications
- Li-Chun Wang - for contributions to cellular architectures and radio resource management in wireless networks
The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year does not exceed one-tenth of one percent of the total voting Institute membership. Each new Fellow receives a beautifully matted and framed certificate with the name of the Fellow and a brief citation describing the accomplishment, a congratulatory letter from the incoming IEEE president and a gold sterling silver Fellow lapel pin with antique finish.
