Nominations for Members of the Board of Governors
Nominations are sought for candidates for the VTS Board of Governors, which is the Society's governing body. There are fifteen voting members on the Board, each serving for a three year term. Five members are elected by the membership each year.
As a small Society without staff, the Board of Governors is a working committee, with each member expected to take responsibility for one area of the Society's activities, so potential candidates should have the time and energy to commit to what is a very rewarding undertaking. The Board meets three times yearly - twice at the VTC conferences for full day meetings in May/June and September, and once for a two day weekend meeting in late January or early February where initiatives for the year are agreed. The February meeting takes place in North America, while the other meetings alternate between Europe, Asia and North America. Potential candidates must be available to travel to these meetings (expenses are provided).
Candidates are selected in one of two ways. The normal method is to email the chair of the Nominations Committee (currently James Irvine, j.m.irvine@ieee.org) for a nominations form. The Nominations Committee will review potential candidates and select a slate of between 8 and 10 candidates for the ballot. Alternatively, a candidate may be nominated by petition. The rules for petition nomination, as well as the responsibilities of Governors, can be found in the Society's by-laws at http://www.vtsociety.org/images/stories/pdfs/bylaws.pdf
Members can nominate themselves or another member, in which case the consent of the candidate must be obtained. Please contact the Chair of the Nominations Committee if you are interested.
Nominations for the 2013-2015 term close on 31 May 2012.
